چکیده

Modern distributed systems often achieve availability and scalability by providing consistency guarantees about the data they manage weaker than linearizability. We consider a class of such consistency models that, despite this weakening, guarantee that clients eventually agree on a global sequence of operations, while seeing a subsequence of this final sequence at any given point of time. Examples of such models include the classical Total Store Order (TSO) and recently proposed dual TSO, Global Sequence Protocol (GSP) and Ordered Sequential Consistency. We define a unified model, called Global Sequence Consistency (GSC), that has the above models as its special cases, and investigate its key properties. First, we propose a condition under which multiple objects each satisfying GSC can be composed so that the whole set of objects satisfies GSC. Second, we prove an interesting relationship between special cases of GSC– GSP, TSO and dual TSO: we show that clients that do not communicate out-of-band cannot tell the difference between these models. To obtain these results, we propose a novel axiomatic specification of GSC and prove its equivalence to the operational definition of the model. 1998 ACM Subject Classification C.2.4 Distributed Systems

Operation Sequencing Optimization in CAPP Using Hybrid Teaching-Learning Based Optimization (HTLBO)

Computer-aided process planning (CAPP) is an essential component in linking computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM). Operation sequencing in CAPP is an essential activity. Each sequence of production operations which is produced in a process plan cannot be the best possible sequence every time in a changing production environment. As the complexity of the product incr...

Advanced Local Checking of Global Consistency in Heterogeneous Multimodeling

Software design requires deployment of interdependent models conforming to different metamodels. This set of models is called a multimodel, and it must satisfy a set of global constraints regulating interaction of the multimodel components. A straightforward approach to global consistency checking would require merging component metamodels modulo their overlap, adding, perhaps, new global const...

Mise en correspondance et gestion de la cohérence de modèles hétérogènes évolutifs. (Evolutive heterogeneous models matching and consistency management)

To understand and manipulate a complex system, it is necessary to apply the separation of concerns and produce separate parts. In Model Driven Engineering (MDE), these parts are represented by models qualified as partial models. In this context of multi-modeling, these models are called heterogeneous when they are described in separate modeling languages dedicated to different business domains:...

Towards a Unified Verification Theory for Various Memory Consistency Models

Memory consistency models (e.g., Total Store Ordering (TSO), Partial Store Ordering (PSO), and Relaxed Memory Ordering [7]) specify behaviors of shared memories that are simultaneously accessed by multiple threads. For example, consider the program (x = 1; y = 1) ∥ (r0 = y; r1 = x) that consists of two threads where ∥ denotes a parallel composition, r0 and r1 are thread-local variables, x and y...
